Rooftop astronomy
Observe the night sky from a terrace, balcony or open ground. You do not need a telescope to start.
We encourage people to go up to their terrace, balcony or gallery, or out to a garden or open ground: anywhere with a clear view of the sky. From there you can observe the night sky through a telescope, or even without one.
You do not need a telescope to start. In fact, naked-eye astronomy is the key to becoming an amateur astronomer. You can learn to find and identify constellations, asterisms and bright stars. Some bright constellations, such as Orion, are visible even from a city sky.
Watch the phases of the Moon, and follow the planets as they move against the background stars over weeks and months. Track how the Moon’s position in the sky changes every day.
If you have a small telescope, you can photograph the Moon through it with a smartphone adapter, or even hand-held. You can also photograph the night sky directly with your smartphone, using night mode or manual mode.
We also run exclusive stargazing sessions from elevated locations, for the best views.
